Brenau University Scholarships

Merit scholarship ($6,400-$17,000 / year)
These grants are awarded to students who have a record of academic success, but do not meet the academic requirements for either the Trustee Scholarship or the Faculty Excellence Scholarship. Achievement Grants are renewable as long as the recipient remains in good academic standing at Brenau University. Eligibility for renewal will be assessed at the end of each academic year.
Scholarship amounts generally range from $6,400 to $17,000 /year.
Depending on their GPA and housing status (residential or commuter). This award is also renewable as long as they maintain their GPA.

President, Brenau University
Dr. David L. Barnett
A native of Georgia, Dr. Barnett holds a doctorate in educational leadership and organizational development, along with a Specialist in Education from the University of Louisville. He earned a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University. As a member of the academic honor society Phi Kappa Phi, he received numerous academic awards. Dr. Barnett served as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Brenau, overseeing day-to-day operations and strategic financial planning. With executive leadership roles at six universities in Georgia and Kentucky, his expertise spans financial management, academic leadership, and student affairs. Dr. Barnett also teaches doctoral courses, presents at national conferences, and serves on various non-profit educational and community boards. He resides in Georgia with his wife, Kimberly, and actively engages in civic and church activities, alongside his passion for sports and outdoor pursuits.

From dance and vocal performances to captivating gallery shows and theatrical brilliance courtesy of the Gainesville Theater Alliance, our campus is alive with creativity. We're honored to host poet C. M. Burrows for a special reading and to support the Black Faculty Staff Association's cultural events. Additionally, our partnership with the United Way of Hall County and Jackson EMC Foundation underscores our commitment to mental health awareness and crisis intervention training, essential skills in our community's well-being. Upon Graduation from Brenau, Emmie was recruited by the Newell Rubbermaid Corporation where she worked in product development and trend marketing. In 2005, she founded Southern Proper, a Clothing line for Gentlemen. Selling to over 300 specialty men’s stores and National Department stores, she is the creative influence and founder of this growing lifestyle brand. She has received several awards for her entrepreneurial efforts as a result of Southern Proper’s success.
